The Formalities
Bride/Groom Dance
We usually start off the dance portion of the reception with a special dance showcasing the new Bride and Groom. This is typically a song that the Bride and Groom selected. This song can be the first slow song you ever danced to, a song from a special movie, or a song that has special meaning to both of you.
Bride/Father Dance
This is a special dance that the Bride and her father will share. It can be a song that tells your father how much he means to you, and sometimes it can be a song about how your father feels about you. Please talk to your father about this memorable dance.
Groom/Mother Dance
This is a special dance that the Groom and his Mother will share. It can be a song that tells your mother how much she means to you, and sometimes it can be a song about how your mother feels about you. Please talk to your mother about this memorable dance. Note: Some Brides and Grooms wish to combine the Bride and Father and Groom and Mother Dance together. This saves on time, and in some cases, certain people don’t like to be the center of attention.
Bridal-Party Dance
This dance typically follows the Bride and Groom’s first dance. It can be a slow song selected by you or the bridal party or a fun, upbeat selection to get the party started. Note: Not all weddings have a bridal party dance. Ask your DJ for advice.
Dollar Dance
The Dollar Dance gives your guests a chance to dance with the new Bride and Groom. Typically the Best Man and Maid of Honor collect the money from each person who wishes to dance with you. This can be a good way to make some extra spending cash for the honeymoon.
Longest-Married-Couple Dance
The DJ invites all married couples to the dance floor. The DJ plays a slow song and as the song progresses, the DJ will announce that anyone married less than … please leave the dance floor. The DJ starts with five years and progresses until there is one final couple left on the dance floor. The DJ will then take the microphone and ask the winning couple how long they have been married and if they have any advice for the newly married couple. Sometimes this dance can be very funny or very touching to your family and friends.
Bouquet Toss
The Bouquet Toss can be performed in many different ways. The traditional method is to have all the single ladies stand at one end of the dance floor, with the bride at the other. With her back to the ladies, the DJ will count to three and then the bride will toss the bouquet over her shoulder to the anxious participants.
Bouquet Presentation
The bride can do a presentation of the bouquet to someone special in her life. This could be her mother, sister, grandmother or special friend. The DJ can call that person out to the dance floor for the presentation.
Garter Toss
Traditionally the bride sits on a chair on the dance floor, while the groom attempts to remove the garter from her leg. If you wish, we can make it a little more difficult for the groom, by instructing him that he is not allowed to use his hands and the bride is not allowed to help him. After the removal, and with his back to the single men at the opposite end of the dance floor, the DJ will count to three and then the groom will toss the garter to the awaiting men.
Garter Auction
Usually someone from the wedding party or a relative of the bride is the auctioneer. This person will work the crowd by taking bids until the highest bidder wins the garter. (This can be a lot of fun for the right type of crowd and has been known to raise a lot of money for the bride and groom.)
Garter Raffle
The DJ will announce that the bridal party will be selling raffle tickets to win the bride’s garter. Later on in the evening after the tickets have been sold, the bride will draw the winning ticket and present the garter to the lucky winner.
Toast to the Bride and Groom
A toast is usually given by the Best Man and Maid of Honor. Sometimes another bridal party member, family member or a special friend of the couple will also want to do a toast. The DJ will supply a wireless microphone.
Bride and Groom Toast/Welcome
When the toast to the bridal couple is finished, sometimes the Bride and Groom will stand and toast their parents or thank everyone for sharing their special day with them.
